FrequentlyAskedQuestions
Q: What is an RPG?
A: RPG stands for Role Playing Game. This is a story-telling game played as a social interaction amungst at least 2 or more people. Traditionally there are dice (varies by game), paper, pencil (writing utensil of choice), and perhaps a book or two. The format is much like freeform acting or folk tale based fire-side oral dictation. The leader or storyteller (often referred to as Bard, Storyteller, GameMaster, Dungeon Master, etc.) starts things off by giving a fairly detailed description of the setting, any points of interest, such as events, non-player characters that may be of note, and things (basically s/he sets the stage for the player characters, or actors, if you will). Role Playing takes place when the stage is set and the players start acting out their character's actions, intentions, desires, etc. A good role player will allow the character to take life with wishes, dreams, a moral code, ambition, friends, and more, but realize that it is all make believe (it is just a game after all!) and it should be left in the game world. Role Playing is a hobby, however, and it tends to take up a lot of time, so be prepared (in the tradition of gamers everywhere) with snacks and drinks!
